About the session

Gonçalo Andrade spends 30 minutes on the question behind every banner: does it do what you think it does? He explains what the cookie rules ask for, puts different banner designs next to each other, and shows how to keep useful insight from visitors who decline.

Cookie banners look simple. The rules behind them, and the choices between different types of banner, are not always. Whether your current banner no longer meets GDPR requirements or still tracks what it shouldn’t, you’ll leave knowing what to look for in a replacement and how to switch with confidence. Planning a new website? The same checks apply. Respecting a visitor’s choice and understanding your audience can go together, and we’ll show you how.

Why now: cookie banners are on regulators’ radar across the EU. Discussions on the Digital Omnibus may reshape how consent works, and a banner that doesn’t do its job leaves you with data you can’t confidently use. Sorting it out now is easier than a rebuild later.

What we found

  • In a review of 1,729 of the largest Nordic websites, non-essential cookies were already in place before consent on 73% of them.
  • 55% still set non-essential cookies after a visitor clicked Reject.
  • 79% had tried to implement Google Consent Mode v2, but only 25% did it correctly.
